Home Search Topics Contact About | Election And Free WillGod chose to save us and planned to do it long before we chose to believe and be saved. Some believe too strongly in one or the other of election or free will to the exclusion of the other. It can be puzzling to our limited minds, but according to the Bible both election and free will are involved in salvation. Quite often when we first become saved our emphasis is that I have received Jesus. Then as we grow in the Lord and our knowledge of the Bible it brings us to a firm belief in election. We can sometimes look into our past before we received Jesus and know that God was at work on our behalf even then. Since election and free will are both taught in the Bible, we should believe both doctrines rather than just one or the other, even though our minds cannot completely wrap themselves around both truths. Charles Haddon Spurgeon said that he would like to bang the heads together of those who only believed in one or the other. J. Vernon McGhee explained it this way: Before we enter it, the front of the door of salvation says whosoever after we are saved and see the other side of the door it says Chosen. Joshua 24:15: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. Revelation 22:17: And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Romans 10:13: For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Ephesians 1:4: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 2 Timothy 1:9: Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, Luke19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
